Mango Inflorescence feeders

Inflorescence feeders

Symptoms:

Several species of lepidopteran caterpillars were found feeding on inflorescence causing serious damage.  The larval feeding result in inflorescence webbing and drying, causing up to 20 – 40% flower drop across the mango varieties.  The caterpillars feed on mango inflorescence in all stages of its growth right from panicle emergence and also found damaging the tender leaves.  Excessive damage at this critical time has potential to limit production even before fruit is set.

Control

  • Spray of cypermethrin @ 0.5 mL/L followed by neem soap @ 10 g/ L is sufficient to deter the multiplication of the pest.
